F66 on a Miele T1 heat-pump dryer means the control system has detected insufficient airflow through the drying circuit. Unlike conventional dryers that simply vent hot air outside, Miele T1 dryers use a closed-loop heat-pump system: air is heated, passed through the clothes, cooled in an evaporator to extract moisture, reheated, and recirculated. If airflow drops below the threshold at any point in this loop, the thermal protection system logs F66 and shuts down the heater to prevent damage.
Why Heat-Pump Dryers Are Different
Generic appliance technicians often treat F66 like a "clogged vent" issue on a conventional dryer. This is wrong. Miele T1 dryers have no external vent (in most installations). The airflow restriction is internal:
- Evaporator filter — catches lint before air reaches the heat-pump evaporator
